Raku
I love the serendipitous aspect of Raku firing. Bisque-fired pieces are fired in a Raku kiln and removed at bright red heat. The pieces are then placed into metal trashcans along with combustible materials. I like to use shredded newspaper, sawdust, and dried leaves as combustibles to affect each glaze differently during the post-firing reduction. Once cooled the pieces are scrubbed clean to reveal their beauty.
